When it comes to windows, doors, and other renovations, there’s a lot of choice. How do you know you’re making the right decision?

There are three main points to this: Experience. You want a company that knows their stuff and has been in the industry for a long time. If they’ve been around for decades and are going strong, it’s likely because they’re getting it right. Then there’s reviews. There are so many resources nowadays for you to learn about a company and do your research. Check out their Google reviews, Home Stars reviews, their social media platforms, and see what people are saying about them. If you find very little about a company – that’s a problem.

Warranty is possibly the most important. Some companies offer a ten-year warranty, or even less. This is a red flag. If windows and doors aren’t good quality, that’s when you’ll start seeing issues. You want a company with a lifetime warranty.

When you do pick the right contractor for your renovations, what should homeowners expect?

Renovations are a much bigger deal than just buying a product at a store. You deserve the best customer service from start to finish given the investment you’re making in your home. Decorating is always nice, but keeping comfortable in your home and lowering energy bills is the most important thing. Because of that, homeowners should look at roofing, insulation, their heating systems, and of course, their windows & doors.

What issues will homeowners notice, especially in winter, if they need to seek out a great company to upgrade their windows?

Drafts are a big one. We see a lot of homeowners complain about drafts due to old windows or poor exterior doors. Some homeowners will have to deal with mould around the frames. When it’s especially cold, we even see people dealing with ice on their windows. Then there’s the overall cold in the home. You shouldn’t have to blast the heat constantly, 24/7, and that indicates there are issues with the building’s exterior. One of the biggest problems is old, inefficient, single-pane windows. If you’re cold all the time or using too much energy to stay warm, it’s time to upgrade.
