When it comes to windows, properly cleaning and lubricating the hardware is important for keeping them in working order.
Are your windows becoming harder to open or close? When thinking about maintenance, occasionally checking the hardware for any issues and keeping it clean and lubricated is a great way to ensure they move as intended. The Window Geeks are here to help you do it properly!
This is easy. Begin by cleaning the window track of any dirt or debris that has accumulated. This should always be prior to lubrication, otherwise you won’t be able to apply it effectively to the frame.
Use a silicone-based spray if possible, as they dry quickly and prevent dust from sticking. The track is what the wheels slide along, so fully spray the now-clean surface. You can also spray parts of the main frame of the window that the weatherstripping slides across.
Now close the window and clean the other half of the track, so it can slide easily into and out of the open position.
Repeat the previous, but for the locks and any other hardware. Clean them to remove dirt and residue, then give any holes or openings on them a quick spray with the lubricant.
Top Tip: Lubricate before giving the windows a proper clean so that residue is not left on the frame or glass. Alternatively, cover the glass with paper towel before spraying.
These steps are easy to follow. You don’t need to wait until your window becomes difficult to open. Lubricate occasionally regardless to avoid the problem arising in the first place.
