Energy Savings In The News Rebates

Window Grants are Changing

Geek Level 1

Government grants, rebates, and loans can be a great help when it comes to energy efficiency upgrades – but one major scheme is is about to implement restrictions. The Window Geeks spoke to CTV about the coming changes.

Canada’s Greener Homes Grant

The federal government’s Greener Homes Program has been helping homeowners with their renovations for the last couple of years. This helpful program provides up to $5,000 in rebates for window and door upgrades, coupled with a generous 10-year interest-free loan of up to $40,000 for broader home renovations. Unfortunately, the program has issued a final call for applicants for the program in its current form, so be sure to act fast. Our Window Geeks can help you with the process. The program is expected to return, but with income restrictions.

Year-Round Comfort with Government Rebates

Government grants and loans are designed to help you upgrade your home's energy efficiency, which means only the best products qualify and some programs require an energy assessment both before and after. The products that qualify are more expensive to start with, but the investment is worth it. With utility costs rising and the weather becoming more extreme, it’s important to make your home as efficient as possible.

Why Windows?

Rebates can be used for a number of different energy efficiency improvements, such as heating systems and insulation, but window upgrades are a very wise use of these funds. Old, outdated windows and doors can act as little more than a hole in the wall. By focusing your attention on these elements of the home, there’s much less need for heating in the first place, and better insulation isn’t a whole lot of use if heat and cold air from your A/C can escape anyway.

Are there Other Rebate Options?

The Greener Homes program may be winding down, but thankfully, there are other options for homeowners. In most areas of BC, homeowners can access the CleanBC rebates to help with window and door upgrades. Alberta also has some options for financial assistance, with the SHARP program for seniors and limited help for homeowners in Calgary.
