Alberta Window & Door Rebates

Energy Savings Rebates

Rebates and grants can be confusing. Thankfully, the Window Geeks are here to help you navigate them. Let’s dive into the world of energy-efficient living and explore how Alberta window rebates can make a significant impact on your home and energy bills.

Understanding Alberta Window Rebates

Provincially and federally, our governments recognize the importance of energy efficiency and offer grants and loans to encourage homeowners to upgrade their windows. These rebates are designed to offset the initial costs of purchasing and installing energy-efficient products, making window replacement a financially savvy decision.

So, what’s available for Alberta homeowners when it comes to energy-efficient window rebates?

Let’s dive a little deeper…

Key Programs

Federal: Greener Homes Loan

  • You can apply for a 10-year loan for up to $40,000 for your efficiency improvement project.
  • This loan is interest-free.
  • The loan requires the homeowner to have an energy assessment undertaken both before and after renovations. Get up to $600 reimbursement fee on the cost of assessment audits.
  • Maintain labels (such as ENERGY STAR) on your windows and doors until after your post-retrofit evaluation.

Provincial: Senior Home Adaption and Repair Program

  • You could be eligible for Senior Home Adaption and Repair Program Loan of a minimum of $500 and a maximum of $40k.
  • The Seniors Home Adaptation and Repair Program (SHARP) allows seniors to use their home equity to remain in their homes and maintain their independence. Eligible seniors can apply for a low-interest home equity loan with the Government of Alberta to cover repairs, adaptations, and renovations to their primary residence.
  • Have an annual income of $75,000 or less.
  • Be 65 years of age or older – only one spouse or partner needs to be at least 65 – and listed as a registered owner of a residential property in a Land Titles Office.
  • Be a Canadian citizen or have been lawfully admitted to Canada for permanent residence.
  • Be an Alberta resident, having lived in the province for at least 3 months.

Municipal: Calgary’s Clean Energy Improvement Program

  • Financing for up to 100% of project costs.
  • Competitive interest rates (rate for 2023 is 2.95%).
  • Long repayment terms (up to 20 years).
  • The option to repay in full at any time without penalty.
  • An incentive of up to 10% of total project costs.
  • Repayment collected through your property tax bill.
  • Application intake is annual and limited.

Why Energy-Efficient Windows Matter

Energy-efficient windows play a crucial role in enhancing the overall energy performance of your home. They help regulate indoor temperatures, reduce energy consumption, and lower utility bills. In Alberta, where winters can be harsh, and summers scorching, having windows that effectively insulate your home is essential.

Choosing the Right Windows

To maximize your window rebate benefits, it's crucial to select products that meet the required energy efficiency standards. Look for features such as low-emissivity coatings, multiple panes, and gas fills between the panes to enhance insulation. Additionally, ensure that the windows are ENERGY STAR certified for optimal performance.

Steps to Secure Alberta Window Rebates

Research Eligibility: Check the eligibility criteria for the specific rebate program you plan to apply for.

Select Qualified Products: Choose windows that meet the energy efficiency requirements outlined by the rebate program.

Professional Installation: Ensure your windows are installed by a certified professional to meet program specifications.

Keep Documentation: Keep all receipts, product information, and installation records for the application process.

Investing in energy-efficient windows not only contributes to a greener environment but also puts money back in your pocket through Alberta window rebates. We encourage you to take advantage of these programs to enhance the comfort, energy efficiency, and value of your home. Reach out to the Window Geeks with any questions – we’re always happy to help!
