The Truth About ‘Lifetime’ Warranties

You may have been told by some companies that they offer ‘lifetime’ warranties, but don’t be fooled – more often than not, these warranties are actually limited in terms of both time and scope. Be sure to ask about how long the warranty really lasts. You’ll typically find that it’s good for 25 years, or sometimes even just 20. Also, make sure you know what is covered – is it the frame, glass, and installation, or is it only one of those elements? Don’t let companies get away with claiming they offer lifetime warranties if they don’t mean it.

The Difference a Good Warranty Makes

A good warranty is absolutely vital, and it demonstrates the faith a company has in its capabilities and products. With a project like window replacement, never go for a short warranty. Some will offer as little as a couple of years – this is a huge red flag. It normally takes at least 5 years for your home to start showing signs of damage due to incorrectly installed windows or building envelope deficiencies. If a company can’t even cover their windows for that long, you know what you’re getting is inferior and likely to cause issues down the line.

How Much Can You Trust a Company?

A warranty is only as good as the company offering it, so always do your research when it comes to deciding who to proceed with.
